Foundation Isolation for Machinery & Equipment

Isolation for Machinery and Equipment
Industrial machinery is constantly exposed to vibration, shock, and dynamic loads that can reduce equipment accuracy, shorten service life, and affect surrounding structures. Foundation isolation helps control vibration at its source by separating machinery from the building foundation using engineered isolation systems.

Wilrep provides foundation isolation solutions for machinery and equipment, including inertia block foundations, vibration isolation pads, spring isolation systems, Regufoam®, RT Blocks, and IB-500 foundation isolation products. Our solutions are designed to improve equipment performance, reduce vibration transmission, and protect sensitive industrial installations.

What is Foundation Isolation?

Foundation isolation is the process of separating machinery or equipment from a building foundation to minimize vibration and shock transmission. Industrial facilities use engineered isolation materials, springs, elastomeric pads, and inertia block foundations to reduce the transfer of vibration between equipment and surrounding structures.

A properly designed foundation isolation system improves machine stability, protects precision equipment, reduces maintenance caused by vibration, and helps prevent vibration from affecting nearby production areas or building occupants.

Inertia Block Foundation Isolation

An inertia block foundation is one of the most effective methods of isolating vibration generated by heavy industrial machinery. The concrete inertia block increases the mass beneath the equipment while engineered isolation mounts or pads separate the block from the surrounding foundation.
This approach helps reduce vibration transmission, improve machine accuracy, and protect nearby equipment and structures. Inertia block foundations are commonly used for compressors, presses, pumps, generators, precision machinery, HVAC equipment, and other industrial applications where vibration control is essential.

Foundation isolation is not limited to industrial machinery. Buildings and structures located near rail systems, subways, manufacturing facilities, or other vibration sources also require engineered vibration isolation to protect structural integrity and occupant comfort.

Isolation for Buildings and Structures

Subways, trains, streetcars, machinery and equipment – all sources of vibration in buildings and structures. Failure to consider these factors in building engineering may have serious ramifications for building owners and occupants. Novibra’s selection of isolation products have proven effective in controlling vibration in demanding environments, including seismic activity.

Recording studios, theaters, and residential apartments around the world have benefited from the use of Novibra products to isolate their foundations from vibration. Using proven engineering techniques and a combination of rubber, composites and steel components, vibration in problem areas can be effectively reduced.

Vibration in buildings cause by outside sources is not just a nuisance – it can dramatically affect the life span and maintenance requirements of the building by degrading the structural integrity of foundations, supporting members and curtain walls.

As well, vibration has a negative effect on human health contributing to stress and other health related problems. Vibration isolation is an important factor in creating a pleasant, safe environment where people can live, work and play in comfort.
If you are planning a building project, or anticipate future problems as a result of subway, rail, or road extensions, consider all your options. WILREP Ltd. has the answers to vibration control problems.
