IB-500 FOUNDATION ISOLATION

Unisorb® IB-500 Isolation Pad material is manufactures in two densities:

  • IB – 500 – S2: a less dense material which is used to isolate the walls of the inertia block.
  • IB – 500 – B1: a more dense material which is applied to the base surface of the foundation, usually in two layers. Both materials are manufactured in 1/2″ thick sheets and are used layered where greater thickness is desired.

This isolation material is protected from moisture migrating from fluid concrete by a water resistant covering, which provides a tough abrasion and puncture resistant surface.

Unisorb® Isolation Pad materials offer superior performance because they have been specifically engineered to provide optimum compression rates for the inertia block foundation while using standard construction techniques. These products are unaffected by oils, coolants, cutting fluids and other liquids normally found in the industrial environment. Unisorb® Isolation Pad materials are conservatively rated, providing a life expectancy which exceeds that of the machinery being installed.

The long-standing industry standard for foundation isolation, IB500 pads are manufactured from high-performance synthetic wool and encapsulated with durable, waterproof sheeting. Supplied in 1/2″ thick sheets, they are easy to place within the foundation pit prior to pouring the concrete inertia block. 

IB500 provides a reliable, engineered isolation layer with a typical natural frequency range of approximately 8–19 Hz, delivering effective vibration control for a wide range of industrial applications. Its inherent damping characteristics help absorb and dissipate energy, reducing both transmitted vibration and structure-borne noise.
